DESIGN NAME: Amal Film Festival
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Advertising poster
INSPIRATION: hope and peace between Arabs and Europeans.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Amal is an Arabic word that stands for hope. The aim of the festival is to bring Arab social context and culture closer to the general public in Spain, within the international language of cinema. The poster was designed to highlight hope within European and Arabs. Symbolic elements were used like the crescent and the cross to demonstrate the junction of the two cultures. Also, two languages (Arabic, Latin) were merged to look united in order to emphasize the concept of hope and peace.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The poster was designed to be placed concurrently with the time of the cinematic event.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in February 1st, to February 14th, 2011, in London, UK. It took two weeks to have the poster designed and sent to printer. The poster was designed to be placed in Spain.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The poster was printed on Semi Glossy paper. The technique used to come up with the design was through experimental use of bilingual typography ( Arabic, Latin). The composition was based on the word (Amal) in both languages which means hope to emphasize the concept and highlight the name of the festival.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research was based on the meaning of the word. Typography was utilized to show the two languages working harmoniously to form the poster. Semiotics was used as a method to visualize the meaning of the word, Amal. The crescent and cross were used as symbols to depict peace and hope between different religions Islam, and Christianity.
CHALLENGE: The challenge remains in forming harmony typographically and visually between different religions, and languages to highlight hope.
