DESIGN NAME: A Writer Experience
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Personal Identity
INSPIRATION: The project was mainly inspired by the life experiences a writer is exposed to. As the client is a Saudi fiction book writer who is fascinated by the Spanish culture, the colors, and organic lines of Gaudi’s art influenced the style whereas the symbols were selected to refer to the writer’s Saudi background. There is no focal point in the artwork as imagination is a journey that starts in a place and ends in another.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Writers are the sum of their experiences. This was the starting point of the personal identity for a Saudi fiction book writer. Clearly, the hybrid of dynamism and colorful spirit of the Spanish culture as well as the Saudi culture inspired her. The main influence was Gaudi’s experimental art as it reflects the eclectic background behind her imagination.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The project displays the creativity behind the writer Shaymaa Alshareef. It is the visual language that will be used in all her communication methods with the audience. Through the identity, she is portrayed as an imaginative fiction writer who is inspired and influenced by her surroundings, locally and internationally.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2015 and ended in January 2016. It took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design was drawn in illustrator and painted digitally using photoshop. The brushes were chosen to imitate the stroke of a dry water color brush
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The brand identity follows the international branding dimensions for the stationary as well as the social media image dimension.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The project followed primary and secondary research methods. Interviews were initiated with the writer, her husband and friends to get more insight about her personality and character. Furthermore, secondary research was conducted to explore famos writers' brand identity. Local art of Saudi Arabia and Spain was considered while designing for the brand identity.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to conduct deep research about the character of the writer. It was challenging to grasp one element to symbolize the cultural inspiration of the writer along with fiction book writing.
