INSPIRATION: My inspiration was the specific character of the Faculty of Graphic Arts in Cracow in Poland with strong tradition of graphic arts - printmaking. Meanings - keywords associated with graphic arts are: graphics - print - reflection - graphical errors due to printing techniques / translation / phase process of creation / reflection, printing, copying / multiplication.
Briefcase for prints / metal matrix / appearance of modern aluminum laptops. Classic / contemporary.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Anniversary catalogue for the Faculty of Graphic Arts presents the School's overview: teachers' & students' artworks, articles with old photos, infographics, city plans, list of graduates. Book's idea evokes graphic art in classic and modern. 5 covers are modeled on traditional prints' briefcases. 3 different parts (many books in one book) are divided by metallic covers evoking metal printing matrixes and modern laptops. Specific colours assigned to departments.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Book navigation. To facilitate the readers reception, in the whole book I differed by colours the depictions of Departments. To each Department is assigned different colour that is visible in translation, pagination, details like lines under artworks, timelines and title pages opening each particular part of department.
Navigation, hyperlinks and pagination is linked in texts, table of contents and presentation of teachers and students artworks. Modeled on browsing webpages.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2013 and finished in May 2014 in Cracow, Poland.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The covers' and historical texts' colour imitates metal printing matrixes. Titles embossed on thick cardboard covers refer to the traditional methods of printing. The titles' translation into English are reflected, printed on the next page after the cover, modeled on matrix and graphics prints. Each part has different construction and different paper. Reflected printer's traces in texts are deliberate errors. Printing process mistakes are visible in shifted colour on some parts of texts.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: As a person responsible for content reaserch I had to study the history and politics of Academy of Fine Arts and Faculty of Graphic Arts. To illustrate historical texts I collected archival photos and recognized profesors on pictures. To create timelines with periods of employment of teachers' of the Faculty from 1950-2013 I reaserached in archives and consulted with people who remember old times. To make the list of graduates of the Faculty from 1950-2013 I researched the Books of Diplomas.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part was to find a proper and different from standards concept for the whole album that will reflect the specific character of Faculty of Graphic Arts in Cracow and also the layout will have the features of "transparent" typography. It was very hard to collect data for indexes and timelines and also find a custom concept for the way of presenting students' works and coherent idea for the Studios' photographies.
