Unlike a regular pencil, where the design focuses on a ‘three-spot’ finger handling, and results in a big amount of opposing forces on a specific spot on the pencil, Artemis offers a handling which creates a ‘three-space’ concept for the fingers involved in keeping it. Instead of the holder keeping the pencil, the pencil itself is accommodating your fingers on it, without applying any pressure that eventually could influence the arm’s muscular tension.
Professionally an Architect, though a researcher and designer by nature, I am always looking to find ways to improve people's needs as well as how I can contribute in making people's lives more pleasant. My designs vary from architecture where I am working in metres, to pen making where I am working in millimetres. I have broad experience in working with wood, a material that I love for its lively nature. My Middle Eastern roots have enabled me to have direct contact and experiment with different materials such as stone, wood, paper since childhood on a primary level, while my academic studies in Architecture and my family life in the Mediterranean have given me the intellectual approach that is needed to be inspired and create on a different level.
This pencil design has been an extension of practice of 'arteavita architecture and design studio' from Architecture to Product design and marks the beginning of a new era for our office. Arteavita has been growing significantly and is working on product design by combining Architecture with sculpture. Product design in wood is a challenge and is giving a new perspective to the work already done.
