Francis Assadi Platonic Lounge Chair
Platonic Lounge Chair is Iron Design Award winner in 2018 - 2019 Furniture Design Award Category.
Platonic Lounge Chair

The Platonic Lounge Chair is inspired by and named after one of the five Platonic solids, the cube. A total of 28 walnut cubes are joined by specially engineered stainless steel tubes to lend the chair its structural integrity and to accentuate the contrast between wood and metal. Its seemingly floating seat is made from thermo-formed Avonite, an impermeable solid surface material. The three structural elements of the Platonic allow for numerous combinations of materials, colors and textures, giving rise to a wide range of customizable iterations without ever diverging from its core design.

Francis Assadi

Francis Assadi is a self-taught designer coming from a background of photography and filmmaking. For the last fifteen years he has worked as a TV-Producer and director for United Nations Peacekeeping Missions in Afghanistan, Burundi and Lebanon. He has traveled extensively and lived in several countries throughout the world, learning about other cultures and peoples and paying particular attention to their sense of art and creativity. His Design Studio, which he established in 2016, takes inspiration from these travels and time with other cultures and seeks to instill a sense of openness, curiosity and experimentation into its quest for creativity and originality in modern design.

Francis Assadi Design Studio

The studio was founded by Francis Assadi in 2016. The juxtaposition of opposing elements and sensibilities is at the core of Francis’ approach to design and his interest for creating pieces that diverge from the norm and often celebrate the beauty of complexity. He is based in New York where he works with top-tier Brooklyn-based furniture makers for prototyping and fabrication of his designs.
