Luxmea’s Contrapposto side table is an artifact inspired by Polykleitos’s sculptures to explore the dynamics and balance between lines and masses by fusing modern fabrication techniques and traditional sculptural concepts and to innovatively overcome the gaps between concepts and real world limitations. The choice of natural materials (Baltic birch & walnut burl) with French polishing in shellac, plus the surfaces generated from Boolean action ruled by a Cylinder shape, allows this minimalist design to capture shades of light, therefore, adds an aesthetic sophistication in atmosphere.
Steven was born in China and studied at University of Toronto. His research endeavours include culture versus identiy, integrated sustainability, digital fabrication and parametric design. Steven’s fine background with math and programming made him easily familiar with the digital world and parametric design. He has worked and studied with Sir Peter Cook at CRAB Studio in London. The optimism within the office has profound influence on him.
