The logo consists of a hut made of simple shapes that are stacked to look like a house, symbolising the community that the brand is trying to create for children to play and learn. Primary colours- red, yellow, and blue, are chosen to evoke feelings like uplifting, fun, and reliability. The negative space between the shapes forms the Chinese character of Mandarin, which represents the clubhouse's emphasis on the Chinese language. The half-sun symbolises the uplifting environment The Early Chapter wishes to create for the rising young stars of tomorrow.
I am a designer, thinker, and observer. As an individual, I enjoy people watching and observing how things are done in different cultures and by different people. I always believe that everyone is unique. Family, environment, culture, time and experiences shapes our perspectives and actions. So I find it extremely intriguing to observe. My view that everyone is unique shapes my attitude as a designer. Because design is supposed to solve problems, it is only successful if relevant to the stakeholders - end users and business. I always start each design by understanding the requirements by listening to the stakeholders. This helps me identify conscious and subconsious needs so I can offer useful solutions to their problems. In terms of credentials, I have over ten years of experience in graphic design and illustration, managing end-to-end design projects for business clients. I have pitched, secured, and delivered design products for >10 business clients as Creative Director and Studio Owner, including corporates (SATS Ltd) and small- and medium-sized enterprises (Le Rainbow Catering, Musical Touch). During my past experience as a visual merchandising designer in Clinique, I have also successfully implemented multiple designs in retail stores across Singapore and localized them across 6 Asia-Pacific markets. I am currently moving on to explore and understand the field of user experience design.
My client, The Early Chapter, is a Mandarin-speaking environment curated with fun activities and programs for children to play, learn, and grow with others. They advocate immersive learning by conducting all their activities in the Chinese language. They aim to help children from English-speaking families develop an interest in the Chinese language from a young age, and build native-level proficiency by the time they reach elementary school. I represent Allan Toh studio, an independent design studio that does branding and other forms of visual communications.
