| DESIGN NAME: Big Bang PRIMARY FUNCTION: Poster INSPIRATION: While climate change is all over the news, it does not seem to be reaching peoples minds. There is still a lot of power accumulated in the automotive and oil industry. The metaphoric hand grenade image plays with the urgency and high risk of facing extensive natural disasters. The central theme of the illustration is the global environmental crisis as a highly explosive sociopolitical matter. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Individual traffic causes a lot of air pollution and harms the environment. With this radically hyperbolical illustration showing a hand grenade filled with cars the intention is to provoke a sense of awareness to this global topic. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This project was developed for print products. The advantage of the digital production is the versatile applicability in different print areas. As the selection of mockups shows, the project is suitable for outdoor use, as an indoor poster, but also for publication in magazines, or as a book cover. Therein I see the goal of my work, the far-reaching visibility of the illustration in different media spaces. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The poster was created in Summer 2018 in Vienna. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This Poster was entirely created digitally with Procreate on iPad Pro. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Procreate, digital Image, original dimension: 29,7 x 42cm, 300dpi, rgb TAGS: big bang, cars, traffic, co2 emission, pollution, environment, grenade, climate change RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The European traffic light system uses the colors yellow or orange as warning signals to point out dangers in traffic. Taxis use the color yellow to call attention as well. The idea of connecting the warning color yellow with the yellow cars and the blazing light of an explosion came up at the thought of the daily traffic and the increasing threat of natural disasters that should be seen as a warning sign. CHALLENGE: One of the challenging questions which came up was how the crucial and explosive state of the climate crisis could be pointed out and to visualize it in the most irritating and uncomfortable way. NAME: Miriam Trilety PROFILE: Miriam Trilety is an artist, illustrator and psychotherapist. This diverse background merges in an extraordinary approach to arts and design, as her work shows a slightly odd habit of constantly observing and questioning everything in a quite ironical and satirical manner. She offers graphic and communication design for individuals as well as companies. Among her clients are the University of Vienna, the Austrian Academy of Sciences and several artists and musicians. In 2013 a collection of anecdotes by the physicist Walter Thirring were published by Seifert Publishing with illustrations by Miriam Trilety. In January 2015 she developed the corporate Design and illustrations for the Association for Aesthetics and Applied Cultural Theory in Vienna. Moreover Miriam Trilety is a lecturer for Illustration at Zeichenfabrik (Training Institute for Visual Arts) in Vienna, Austria. |
