DESIGN NAME: Parque Chapultepec II
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Office Building
INSPIRATION: It is a free space between axis giving total freedom to the offices to come. The structure rises from the basement creating the facade of each side and composed of a series of black steel staples that support the mezzanine floors, which are made from grid slabs. Supports are barely separated in the longitudinal facades
generating an urban scale porch. It's a very efficient structural solution to a project that needs flexibility for the variety of possible office space layouts it will provide.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project is in Naucalpan industrial zone. This area is in the midst of an astounding transformation: changing from factories to commercial centers, offices and, on a smaller scale, residential areas and cultural centers. In this building, a particular emphasis was given to achieving a functional and structural coherence that responded to a central characteristic of the industrial typology being transformed.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The strict order and rhythm, orthogonal and horizontal spatiality with which Parque Chapultepec II was designed are transgressed by a strong gesture: a central void in the building linking all levels giving them natural lighting and different forms of social interaction and habitability. It is a very efficient and synthetic structural solution to a project that, although it may seem simple, needs plenty of flexibility for the variety of possible office space layouts it will provide.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2015 and finished in January 2017 in Naucalpan, Estado de Mexico, Mexico.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The structure rises from the basement creating the facade of each side. The structural system is composed of a series of black steel staples that support the mezzanine floors, which are made from grid slabs. Supports are barely separated in the longitudinal facades generating an urban scale porch. The short facades separations respond not to a module but to visuals and orientation. Materials from the area, which also respond well in an office building, were chosen: concrete, steel and glass.
