PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Japanese inn

INSPIRATION:
As a result, we can feel guest satisfaction beyond our expectation. The dynamic composition by the internal old woods astonishes visitors. In the traditional building, we think that we can taste local seafood dishes more delicious. There is no doubt that this full-fledged Japanese-style inn will make a better impression on Ryouriyado Yamazaki. Our concept is harmonize with architecture and climate. Learn by traditional architecture.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The request was to change the RC inn to a wooden structure. So, we relocated the robust old private house from the same Hokuriku area and revived. This plan was consistent with the owner's concept. This stately private house built 120 years ago was too large to be a general house, but it became the characteristic building as the accommodation facility by reusing. We also reused all the fittings and interior materials that had been used before not to hurt the atmosphere of the historic house.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
It is inn that everyone feel strength, rusticity, and beauty of Japanese folk house.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
This place is known as the wild ocean, so we decided to harmonize with this severe climate and bring the strength of the old private house structure in the fore. We also reused all the fittings and interior materials that had been used before not to hurt the atmosphere of the historic house. As a result, we can feel guest satisfaction beyond our expectation. The dynamic composition by the internal old woods astonishes visitors.

CHALLENGE:
Using heavy old materials and old fittings heavily, gave us a hard time harmonize with new materials. Another is adding a calm texture and composure into new materials as if they worn-out are.

NAME:
Ryouriyado Yamazaki

PROFILE:
Here is the Echizen coast hot spring town in Fukui Prefecture in Japan. Many buildings are facing the sea. The specialty of this spa town in Hokuriku is the Echizen crab dish. We got consultation from Ryouriyado Yamazaki owner who manages a inn in this street. The request was to change the RC inn to a wooden structure. There were two reasons. One was the RC construction buildings deteriorated by severe sea breeze had ended useful life within 40 years. Another was to build a wooden healing inn and to entertain customers for Echizen cuisine. Therefore, we dismantled and moved the timber framing of the sturdy old private house from the same Hokuriku area to this spa town. We renovated the traditional residence. This plan was consistent with the owner's concept. This stately private house built 120 years ago was too large to be a general house, but it became the characteristic building as the accommodation facility by reusing.
