DESIGN NAME: Light Origami
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Art Installation
INSPIRATION: I wanted to make an interactive space that people could design for themselves. That was my initial idea, and then I devised a 3D kaleidoscope to develop that concept further. Light origami is Third prototype based on this idea.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Light Origami invites viewers to explore the nature of reality by entering a giant 3D kaleidoscope. The domed structure is bathed in light and is constructed using over 320 origami shapes made from mirror panels. Changing spectrums of light are projected within the space, and when mirrored against the mirror panels, the effect is like being inside a kaleidoscope. The interior space is spread eternal without edge of space.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Light Origami is an unique interactive art installation.
Every surface is covered by mirror. So this interior design will be decided by your action in the work.
So please not only play and dance in Light Origami but also taking photo!
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was exhibited in Sydney in May 2015, in Scottsdale / USA in February 2016, in Singapore in March 2016.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This is third prototype of 3D kaleidoscope. The second prototype "WINK SPACE" was received silver prize in A'design Award in 2014. Regarding of Light Origami, the most improved thing is free standing object. So this structure is stable even for public use. Although many solution was though, ACP is the best way to assemble. Because every structure, construction method and surface could be realized by only one way. It took 2days to assemble it.
CHALLENGE: Nearly two centuries after the kaleidoscope was patented by Scottish physicist Sir David Brewster in 1817, Light Origami creates
the sense of being inside a giant 3D kaleidoscope. Participants co-create the experience within the dome. Much like a kaleidoscope, a new and unique experience is co- created for each participant.
Space design have to be changed "the user can design its space design". I called this space design way " interactive space design method".
