DESIGN NAME: ABSTRAIRE artisan cheese
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Artisan Cheese
INSPIRATION: I was inspired by the nature and fresh dairies. The geometrical shapes and 3D figures of them inspired me to design a modern and clean packaging.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: ABSTRAIRE artisanal cheese is made from one hundred percent fresh organic milk which is produced in Vermont. Since 1991, it’s time tested craft of artisian cheese making has resulted in a unique ABSTRAIRE shape. The brand has demonstrated a modern and clean design, targeting cheese foodies to experience high-end artisan delicacies. The colors clearly feature three different types of cheese: blue represents bleu d'Auvergne from cow, yellow represents crottin de chavignol from goat, and pink represents tome au marc from sheep. The consumers could easily distinguish different types when they are purchasing the cheese.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The design is innovative in its abstract shape. Differing from common wagon wheel or rectangular shape, it has a combination of rounds and angles in the structure. The assembly is not only a beautiful display, but also a user-friendly packaging. It is very easy for consumers to take out cheese from the packaging.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: From February to May, 2013 in New York.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The logo is gold plated, and all materials are made of paper carton.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 70mm x Depth 90mm x Height 100mm. 8 ounce of product in each packaging.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design was originally made from a school project at Pratt Institute, New York. My idea was to target consumers who are willing to adventure innovative cheese, and to purchase much expensive products. Through research, people with the lifestyles fitting in this category would appreciate clean graphics and direct messages, as well as reflect their behavior and characteristics while consuming the cheese.
CHALLENGE: To revolutionize a cheese packaging design that is related to the concept of brand’s abstract shape, and outstanding in the market.
