| DESIGN NAME: Icy Fire PRIMARY FUNCTION: Immersive Digital Art Installation INSPIRATION: Scientists’ statistics and predictions indicate that global warming could lead to catastrophic consequences for humanity. This international environmental crisis necessitates collective action from individuals and countries worldwide. The immersive digital ink generated video art installation, through the distinctive texture of Chinese ink painting and the language of geometric and gestural abstraction, depicts the transformation of a glacier from ice to fire. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The color palette shifts from cool to warm tones, symbolizing the distressing effects of global warming, yet the re-freezing of the text at the end of the video offers a glimmer of hope, signifying the potential impact of our collective efforts. The unique fusion of traditional ink painting with the concept of environmental consciousness propels classical ink art into the domain of contemporary art, showcasing the vitality of Chinese ink in the digital era. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Digital ink generative video art and immersive installation. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in Macao in 2023 and finished in 2024. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This work began by hand-painted ink paintings on rice-paper. Next, converted these physical artworks into digital images using a high-resolution scanner. Finally, TouchDesigner is used to create dynamic movements, blending traditional techniques with digital elements to achieve an immersive installation beyond classical painting. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This is an immersive installation with digital ink generative video art projection on one wall with acrylic mirrors on the other three walls, as well as ceiling and floor. The dimension of the installation is 5.3m x 3m x 4m.
