DESIGN NAME: The Womb of the City
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Installation
INSPIRATION: Although I myself live in the hustle and bustle of the city, I find myself cherishing the time of silence, the time that serves as a blank space for the mind to move toward introspection. These are the air of the shrines I pass while running, the depths of the mountains where I camp surrounded by the sound of water and fog etc.
Inspired by these places, I came up with the idea of suddenly bringing into the city a physicality with a sense of solemnity, as if in a sacred mausoleum or deep in the mountains where one can feel the presence of all the gods, and he was enhancing the intensity of this idea as an expression of his work.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Property communication through experiential art installations is a departure from the uniformity of conventional property recruitment communication. This was a radical new approach to communicating about housing complexes in urban spaces. At the same time, we succeeded in creating a challenging brand image for Mitsubishi Jisho Residence's THE PARK HABIO brand, and this was a step toward achieving a cultural image that encompasses art.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This project successfully proposed a new way for developers to provide value in urban spaces in real estate advertising. We believe that what Mitsubishi Jisho Residence, one of the largest developers in the industry, has done is a valuable initiative that we expect other companies to follow, and that it will redefine the way value is provided in urban housing complexes.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2022 in Tokyo and finished in March 2023.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: All inspiration comes from my own experiences.
The inspiration for the sign is the foggy mountain air captured in film photography.
The floating metal floor, a symbol of urban instability and inorganic nature, and an old tree with a long history. In front of the room, there is a “shoji" screen, whose illumination and color changes with time and permeates the body in this composition. The room smokes as if enveloped in fog, and minimalist music sampled from a “suikinkutsu" and nature sounds plays. This space calms the audience's mind.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: -
CHALLENGE: At the core of this installation's expression is a sense of nature, not artifice. To this end, the project began with a visit to the world's only old lumberyard to explore an old tree that encompasses more than 50 years of time. In addition, to verify the shadows cast by the shoji screens, we conducted endless research, repeatedly making decisions on site one by one about the variations of washi paper and the combination of light that penetrates the washi paper.
