| DESIGN NAME: B73 Apartments PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential Building INSPIRATION: The strongest motivation for this project came with the investor themselves and their will to create an outstanding building that has no compromises on every level. This provided us with almost limitless creative freedom. Afterwards, we succeeded to fully realize our design by using our previous experience with the innovative solid surface material. Organic forms and an overall white look come natural for us in our design. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: B73 stands out in the urban context with its innovative and impactful look, having high-end material usage and exceptional quality in execution. Each residential floor comprises of just a single apartment. B73 is one of the very few buildings in Bulgaria using solid surface material and thermoforming for complex 3D shapes. The concept of the facade starts from a simple surface that is stretched with strategically placed cuts. A discontinuation occurs creating the shape of a swallow bird. The building's lobby hosts a uniquely designed light art installation specially for this space, being one of a kind in Eastern Europe. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The interaction with the building fitting in the context is immediate. The diverse surrounding of materials, colors, heights, building state and shapes makes B73 pop out. Laying out a distinctive architectural line in the context benefits the neighborhood while changing the urban mood and perception. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The complete building envelope and facade design are achieved through using acrylic stone material and thermoforming. It was needed to work with three different softwares in order to achieve the 3D bending of most of the elements, so they could be molded afterwards. The building lobby hosts a uniquely designed light art installation specially for the space, being one of a kind in Eastern Europe. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 26-meters high, the building has 6 floors over ground and 2 underground ones. Total built-up area is 2,100 sqm. TAGS: Thermoforming, Solid Surface, Innovation, Technology, Residential, 3D, Premium, Facade, Light Installation RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Having a busy boulevard, difference of heights and public and private buildings in the area, plus, non-homogeneous architectural language, makes inserting a new addition difficult. Instead, the approach was to elevate the quality of design and materials of the existing context, by inserting a well-executed gem. CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was to meet all investor's expectations for high quality execution. The whole process required precision on every step together with well managed synchronization between contractors.
