Dongshang is a Japanese restaurant and bar located in Beijing, composed of bamboo in many different forms and sizes. The traditional and symbolic material with strong connections to both Japanese and Chinese arts and crafts covers the entire walls and ceilings. The main dining is surrounded by bamboo strips fixed by brass nails on the walls, and a transparent canopy made of bamboo sticks is suspended over the tables to create a sense of intimacy. Dongshang invites guests on a story of traditional design motifs and crafting techniques, while evoking the feeling of dining within a bamboo grove.
