His stunning new clock designs for Lemnos are, as the collection title suggests, "Carved". Subtle, yet immediately noticeable, the numbers on these clocks are carved indents cut so close to the edge of the faces that the top of them are actually chopped off. The shadows of the carved-out letters bring a three-dimensional impression to the clock face, with its appearance changing in accordance with lights located in its immediate area. The idea was inspired by materials used for interior decoration and technical conversion.
In 1994, he completed MA course of the Association School of Architecture (AA school) in London. After returning to Japan, he produced and directed various brands as well as designing architectures and products. In 2003, he established TERADA DESIGN ARCHITECTS OFFICE. In 2011, he opened “TERADAMOKEI” in Simokitazawa, Tokyo. Currently, he’s the managing director of Interoffice Inc., an outside lecturer of Musashino Art University, and the juror of the Good Design Award. He directs the brand, “15.0% ice cream spoon”which is produced and marketed by TAKATA Lemnos Inc., while designing all the products.
TAKATA Lemnos Inc. was founded in 1947 as a brass casting manufacturing industry in Takaoka-city, Toyama Prefecture, Japan and Lemnos launched out into the full-scale business trade with Seiko Clock Co., Ltd. since 1966. Lemnos entered into the development for the original planning from late 1980 and “Lemnos Brand” recognized as the global design clock by a masterpiece “HOLA” designed by Kazuo KAWASAKI which released in 1989. Afterwards, Lemnos made a lot of projects with well-known designers who took in active in Japan and overseas such as Riki WATANABE, Kazuo KAWASAKI, Shin AZUMI, Tomoko AZUMI, Kanae TSUKAMOTO etc. and Lemnos made announcement of their fine works abounding in artistry and prominent designs. The brand products are now highly praised from the design shops and the interior shops all over the world. In recent years, Lemnos also have been given high priority to develop interior accessories making full use of traditional techniques by the founding manufacturer and it always focuses the minds on the development for the new Lemnos products in the new market. The products are made carefully by craftsmen finely honed skillful techniques in Japan. They surely bring out the attractiveness of the materials to the maximum and create fine products not being influenced on the fashion trend accordingly. Lemnos definitely would like to be innovative and continuously propose the beauty lasts forever.
