Evangeline Marie Pesigan Tirintas Lounge Chair
Tirintas Lounge Chair is Iron Design Award winner in 2015 - 2016 Furniture Design Award Category.
Tirintas Lounge Chair

Tirintas is an abstract structural frame chair in metal wrapped with an outer screen of wood veneer. The design is inspired by cultural influences from the Philippines. The dynamic interwoven lines highlight the rare artisanal skills and playful use of the materials’ flexible properties. The process allowed artisans to develop new techniques and foster meaningful interaction. Its open structure invites the user to experience the craft and connect with its surroundings. It is a modern interpretation of traditional form that is versatile, functional, and distinctly defined by Filipino identity.

Evangeline Marie Pesigan

Thinking differently about making things, Evangeline Pesigan created her first furniture line in September 2013. She has expanded her interests beyond her native Philippine culture, mixing creativity and traditional craft techniques with modern fabrication and unexpected juxtapositions. Storytelling, heritage and sensibility for craft are paramount in her practice. She acts as a facilitator rather than a creator, collaborating and making connections between her vision, design method and the more instinctive approach of artisans. She aims to foster meaningful interactions where limitless possibilities are shaped and knowledge is equally exchanged. She has been involved in a variety of projects and her work has been featured in many design exhibitions and competitions.

EMP Design Studio

EMP Design Studio is a furniture and interior design studio founded by Evangeline Pesigan. The studio is dedicated to fusing modern production methods with craftsmanship through a collaborative making process that promotes innovative and progressive design. Pesigan produces different kinds of conceptual projects by engaging and re-contextualizing dualities and in the process finds a balance to embody contemporary ideas inspired by cultural influences. From that approach, she explores the everyday moments, often unnoticed, as a way of learning from the past to better understand the present and reinterpret new design possibilities. Her designs are refined and unexpected yet providing comfort and familiarity about them. The studio aims to share experience, experiment and exchange knowledge that advocate uniqueness of design, quality of craftsmanship and value of sustainability.
