Balta is a dingbat font which is based on symbols and patterns found on ancient Baltic jewelry. The font serves as a design inspiration and a creative tool for developing patterns and symbols. The primary feature of the font BALTA is its special kerning allowing different letter combinations to form new letters-hybrids, which connect into intriguing pattern designs. How does it work? When writing with spaces between glyphs we get separated symbols, meanwhile writing without spaces combines the same or different symbols into new hybrid forms. The variety of symbol combinations is infinite.
Miglė Vasiliauskaitė is very much influenced by lithuanian or so called ancient baltic culture. Her works are inspired by the forms and decoration of baltic artefacts. She likes to experiment with archaic forms while combining them together and creating new shapes of up to date design.
