After 30 years of rapid Chinese industrialization, this project reflects the fundamental social changes and industrial development of a country that calls for a modern take on its architecture. In this sense the house responds to a move away from traditional references and towards an industrial reality. It aims to explore China's industrial capabilities, not as a hidden brutal trauma but rather a force of progress that could distribute welfare throughout society.
SpActrum Studio is a cross-discipline design and art studio founded by Yan Pan and Zhen Li in 2011. We start from our own observation and contemplation, and undertake research through art and design practice, and build up an extended critical discussion platform through publication. We work on architecture, space, objects, images, culture reading and many other areas. Our thinking territories are expanded from our introspection and interests to the surroundings to more comprehensive fields and subjects, to explore alternative research methods and deepen our critical practice.
The house is for a photographer and his wife. One occasional guest room is also needed.
