This building is a showcase of what can be achieved when thinking differently about the built environment. Cardrona Cabin has been designed to inspire others and is a chapel to craft inside and out with timbers sourced from rapidly renewable FSC certified New Zealand plantation timbers that help to mitigate climate change by absorbing vast amounts of carbon, instead of using slow grown, imported timbers usually used to build premium homes and structures. Demonstrating this, over 9 tonnes of carbon is stored from the Vulcan timber elements alone used in Cardrona Cabin.
Abodo crafts timbers with lasting beauty that are safe for people and the environment. Many exterior timbers are harvested from unsustainable old growth forests or are treated with harmful chemicals. Abodo timbers stand the test of time, they are beautiful, durable and rapidly renewable. Formed in 2001 by the Gudsell family, Abodo remains a New Zealand-owned, family business with a purpose.
