View Larger Image and Additional Photos of Chiun Ju interior designAbout Chiun Ju interior design : Chun-Chiao Wu is the Founder and Design Director of Chiun Ju Interior Design in Taiwan and a master’s student at National Taipei University of Technology. With more than 20 years of experience, he has received multiple international design awards including the A’ Design Award, and his research on budget-tier systems and sustainable design has been published at the Advanced Design Conference in Italy. Wu’s work blends neoclassical elegance with modern clarity, often integrating AI-assisted workflows and sustainability. He contributes to the global design community as a practitioner, researcher, and educator.
Design, to me, is a poetic bridge between human memory and spatial experience. It is not merely the arrangement of form and function, but a process of translating lived experiences, emotions, and cultural traces into spaces that can be inhabited, felt, and remembered. Throughout my practice as an interior designer, I have continuously sought a delicate balance between pragmatic constraints and timeless aesthetics—between what a space must do and what it should quietly express.
While art often exists to provoke reflection, design carries an additional responsibility: it must transform emotion into something livable. A well-designed space should breathe with its users, resonate with their daily rhythms, and evolve alongside their lives. I see design as an ongoing dialogue—between past and future, between material reality and imagination, between local cultural roots and global perspectives.
Many of my projects are shaped by memory and narrative. I often extract fragments from personal stories, regional culture, or architectural history, and reinterpret them through contemporary spatial language. This approach has become increasingly important in my research and international work, particularly in the fields of sustainability and design under constraint. I am deeply interested in how limited budgets, recycled or alternative materials, and AI-assisted design workflows can still result in spaces that meet international design standards and gain global recognition.
I do not see art and design as opposing disciplines. Art asks questions; design is expected to provide answers. Yet the most meaningful design, in my view, preserves the questioning spirit of art. This belief has led me to pursue hybridity in my work: blending neoclassical sensibilities with modern clarity, integrating digital intelligence with hand-crafted detail, and aligning sustainable strategies with poetic spatial narratives. For me, beauty is not an isolated goal; it is a byproduct of clarity, restraint, and human understanding.
Beyond professional practice, I also work as an educator and researcher. I believe designers carry a broader responsibility—to contribute to cultural continuity, to promote ecological awareness, and to engage in international dialogue. My ongoing research into budget-tier design models, sustainability frameworks, and AI–human collaboration aims to establish practical methodologies that support both designers and clients, while remaining aligned with global evaluation criteria.
Ultimately, my philosophy can be distilled into one sentence:
“Design is not only about constructing space, but about reconstructing meaning.”
Through this perspective, I seek to build bridges—between Taiwan and the world, between practice and academia, and between design and art itself.
