View Larger Image and Additional Photos of Chiun Ju interior designAbout Chiun Ju interior design : Chun-Chiao Wu is the Founder and Design Director of Chiun Ju Interior Design in Taiwan and a master’s student at National Taipei University of Technology. With more than 20 years of experience, he has received multiple international design awards including the A’ Design Award, and his research on budget-tier systems and sustainable design has been published at the Advanced Design Conference in Italy. Wu’s work blends neoclassical elegance with modern clarity, often integrating AI-assisted workflows and sustainability. He contributes to the global design community as a practitioner, researcher, and educator.
Design, to me, is the poetic bridge between human memory and spatial experience. My practice as an interior designer has always revolved around finding equilibrium between the pragmatic needs of clients and the pursuit of timeless aesthetics. While art provokes reflection and emotion, design carries the responsibility of transforming those emotions into inhabitable spaces—spaces that breathe, resonate, and evolve with human life.
I view design as a dialogue: between the past and the future, between material and imagination, between cultural roots and global perspectives. My projects often draw upon memories, narratives, and cultural fragments, reframing them through contemporary forms and technologies. This has been particularly evident in my research and international work on sustainability, where I explore how limited budgets, recycled materials, and AI-assisted workflows can still yield spaces worthy of global recognition and competitions.
Art and design, while distinct, are not opposites. Art often asks questions, while design must offer answers. Yet the most powerful works of design are those that maintain the questioning spirit of art. This is why I emphasize hybridity: blending neoclassical elegance with modern clarity, infusing digital intelligence into hand-crafted detail, and merging sustainable strategies with poetic narratives. For me, design is not simply about creating what is beautiful, but about revealing silence, memory, and humanity within form and function.
As a designer, educator, and researcher, I believe our responsibility extends beyond individual projects. We are shaping cultural landscapes, nurturing ecological awareness, and participating in international dialogues. My ongoing exploration into budget-tier models, sustainability frameworks, and AI-human collaboration in architecture aims to create methodologies that support both clients and designers while meeting global standards.
Ultimately, my philosophy of design can be summarized in one line: “Design is not only to construct spaces, but to reconstruct meaning.” Through this vision, I hope to continue building bridges between Taiwan and the world, between practice and academia, and between design and art itself.
