About Taiane Lacerda : I have always been inspired by successful women all over the world, especially the Italian-Brazilian Architect and Set designer Lina Bo Bardi. She was an immigrant woman who stood out during a time when women had little relevance, and proved that architecture and set design could be ways of expressing feelings. Like my desires and aspirations, Lina challenged standards of architecture and proved how art can transform the way we see the world and feel about it. I have her as an inspiration not only because of all her efforts to connect both arts with emotions but also, how an immigrant woman can be a successful designer. Because of her, I became passionate about films and theater and beyond that, I also found my passion for 3D animation. Thus, connecting these artistic worlds has always been very motivating to me because I believe that a scenic/production designer is the one who strives to connect art with ideas that flourish through empathy and project the state of mind of characters in order for the people to identify and feel different kinds of emotions. The designer has to understand human perception of space, decipher people's taste, and, finally, see their emotions in the results. And this process for me is not that different from architecture and how people feel about the projects. These artists need to have a certain understanding and human sensitivity and transform it into an experience, and also, be willing and open to constant challenges and new lessons. For both architecture and set design, my favorite part of the creative process is understanding the purpose for which a project is for, how it relies on characters, the audience and what are the feelings we want to them to feel with a story or within a space. That means, it's essential for me to see how unique the project is, together with what really matters to that character, and how the scenography or architecture can translate themselves into a detailed space with all their own personality. Today, I have been learning more about this dream profession and have also been dedicating myself with lots of passion with researching, music, books, films and everything I can find to help me to be a better designer every single day. Hence, my main motivation for my actual MFA studies in Scenography is because of this possibility of creating spaces that carry feelings, tell stories and, more than that, connect with people.
