Practicality and durability are at the heart of each design. The company seeks to bring the ease of use and comfort of indoor furniture to the outdoors, and challenge the mass-produced, throwaway mentality commonly associated with outdoor furniture.
Great art and great design can be very different things, and at the same time exactly the same thing and two halves of a whole. We are born to create, and designing any product or space is always an exciting challenge, with end goal being to satisfy our sense of aesthetics, functionality and comfort. Great art and great design are timeless, and at the very pinnacle of what man strives to achieve. Art is about stirring the imagination and is as broad as the universe and encompasses so many things, be it the visual arts, music or the beauty and power of a poem, but what all great artists strive to achieve is something unique and inspirational, which speaks to other people and fulfills a need. Exactly the same can be said of great design. We have a tendency to always work in a structured and symmetrical sense, but in the natural world everything flows and bends without the rules we apply in our modern environment. Keeping this in mind, when great artistry and design are combined the results can be sublime, and I can think of no better examples than the work of the Spanish architect, Antoni Gaudí, or Jørn Utzon’s Sydney Opera House.
With regards to furniture, I love the understated but soft-flowing curves and lines you find with some of the great European designers. A design can look beautiful but if the comfort has been compromised to the satisfy the overall look, then the piece is incomplete. The practicality and simple functionality of Scandinavian furniture has always fascinated me, but French and Italian design has a romantic edge that I love.
I see myself as in equal parts as inventor and designer and strive to bring those things together in products which will provide comfort, ease of function and compliment the surroundings into which they are placed.
