View Larger Image and Additional Photos of Zhifeng XuAbout Zhifeng Xu : Xu Zhifeng studied architecture at the Fine Art College of Shanghai University between 2003 –2008. Since this time, Xu has moved on to explore the theoretical and social experience of architecture through a series of performance pieces and art exhibitions that intervene with urban spaces, and challenge the observers experience of the built environment. In 2013, Xu established S.H.A.W. Architecture & Design Studio in Shanghai, working range of small scaled projects from book design, furniture design, interior design, stage design, exhibition design and landscape design etc. Recently his studio focuses more on the public space and communities in Shanghai.
The biggest difference for me between art and design is the behind object: art is yourself; and design is your client. You work more instinctively with your own anxiousness to express what you like to say through art form; while in design work, you have to through communication to find the client's need, we always say communication is key, however, every time it is a challenge to any parties and cases. Above all, the guarantee for great design piece, lay on the mutual trusts, and before you become a big design star, as designer in charge, what you can do, is to win your trusts step by step from the client, in most of my situation, I also very enjoyed this process since there's very new culture as the design client actually, which means you're also creating a culture of yourself.
