About MuHua Ho : MuHua Ho was born in Taiwan and raised in Tainan. As a child, she enjoyed drawing and crafting and could be easily entertained with art supplies. MuHua went on to study Industrial Design at National Yunlin University of Science and Technology where she graduated with a BFA. As an undergraduate, she participated in various competitions and won several awards for product design excellence. Thereafter, she traveled abroad to study in Spain at Elisava Barcelona School of Design and Engineering where she acquired her MA in Research for Design and Innovation. During her time in Spain, MuHua discovered her interest in fashion, which led her to pursue an Accessory Design graduate degree at Savannah College of Art and Design. MuHua will complete her MA in Accessory Design in March 2017. STATEMENT OF ART:Ever since I was a child, I have been passionate about drawing and crafts. The ability to create something new and artistic has always made me feel fulfilled and calm. While growing up, I always enjoyed solving problems and was drawn to psychology and anthropology. By studying how people interact and correspond with each other, and with the understanding of human behaviors, I was able to solve any problem. With these interests in mind, I decided to study industrial design for my undergraduate degree in order to improve and provide solutions to problems through what I love, design. After graduation, a compelling opportunity came along. I had a chance to study in an exchange program in Valencia, Spain. Which ultimately lead to a graduate degree in design management. As expected, I experienced some culture shock, which the life in Spain was far different from the life in Taiwan. The two countries cannot be more incompatible. The longer I lived in Spain, the more I adapted to its environment and culture. From the people I interacted with, I got to know more about the society and why they behave as they do, mostly from the empathy I got from their socialization. I learned to marry the positive aspects of the Spanish culture with my own. Moreover, I spent the year traveling around Europe and met people from all over the world. Even though each individual is unique, in some ways, they share similarities. The time I spent in Spain also made me discover my interest in the fashion industry, that led me to the idea of going abroad once again to the U.S. to become an accessory designer. Therefore, I enrolled as an accessory design graduate student. It was a big change for me because accessory design first seemed to have a different design approach regarding my previous majors, the design concepts are majorly formed base on personal aesthetics and trends. However, over time, I realized that in spite of their disparity, I still value the users and the design concept. Since my previous graduate studies focused on research and innovation, I have developed a pattern of creating strong concepts in my design elements. Those could be seen not only in my product design works but also in all of my accessory designs. My ultimate goal is to design accessories that focus on solving critical issues for poverty while can be used for all class, for instance, a backpack that can turn into a tent in harsh climates. I feel my diverse areas of interest share a common goal to the purpose of my life. This is when I found what design really means for me and what I want to do for others - to use my ability and passion to make a positive impact and inspire others through design.
