View Larger Image and Additional Photos of Kent GrationAbout Kent Gration : As a globally awarded, published and recognised environmentally-aware designer Kent Gration's furniture and lighting range 'Wambamboo' has enabled and provided an important platform to create a discourse within the global design community and general consumer market regarding sustainability in the furniture and lighting design sectors. Kent pioneered the use of bamboo in high-end furniture and lighting design at the Salone Satellite in 2007, promoting its environmentally-aware benefits with national and international awards and recognition in many leading awards programs and publications. Kent has been highly regarded within academic settings, as a sessional lecturer and design facilitator.
Good design should last forever, but needn't last forever in the environment. Design should be derived from the necessary, rather than generated from the needs and wants of a select few. In order to design an object that is sustainable with reference to its longevity and the potential of a consumer retaining and using the product for life, a designer must first assess the impact of material selection, refined aesthetics and most importantly form and structural integrity. Design should not be ephemeral, but transcend time without adhering to a certain or on-trend aesthetic. Above all good design should provide a platform to encourage discourse regarding sociological and environmentally aware issues that requiring addressing through a considered and inclusive design-led approach.
