View Larger Image and Additional Photos of Alex HowellAbout Alex Howell : Having always had a creative background Alex only realised the power of design whilst studying his Foundation in Art & Design. Moving to London when he was 18 he quickly learned that design was where his passions lay. Not long graduated Alex now co-runs a design studio in East London, aptly named Studio East as well as freelancing for the Design Museum, supporting the Childhood Trust as a volunteer Designer and working for local and international clients as a freelancer.
'If God is a designer, then I am God'. The power of design is both empowering yet disarming, functional yet liberating it has an almost etherial nature to its abilities to affect and alter our lives - god like even?
Wether it be the humble ball point or a Falcon 9 rocket design is everywhere. It has such an impact upon peoples lives we often aren't even consciously aware of it. As designers we try to tame this strange yet wonderful power to better the world through making our experiences and lives more coherent and fulfilled. There are of course many similarities between art and design but for me design is able to capture the essence (emotion, self-expression) in a form that is understandable and needs no introduction - design is both the artist, the curator and the consumers ideals all rolled into one.
