Awarded by the Type Directors Club of New York 2009, Bienal de Tipos Latinos 2010, Bienal Internacional del Cartel en Bolivia 2013, 2015, nominated to the German Design Award 2010, finalist in The Trnava Poster Triennial 2015 & Nominated to receive The A'Design Award 2016. His work has been featured in several publications like the Fontfeed by fontshop, I Love Typography, Unos Tipos Duros, Tiypo magazine, TDC typography 30, TEDx, Typodarium 2010, 2011 & 2012, Digital Arts, Novum 08 2010, Page Magazine & Communication Arts.
As a designer, my work is deeply rooted in the folklore and traditions of my native Mexico. This rich cultural tapestry informs much of my design practice, offering a wealth of inspiration that connects the modern world with the ancient, the indigenous with the contemporary. I look to the vibrant color palettes, intricate patterns, and symbolic imagery that are central to Mexican visual culture—whether it’s the geometric forms found in pre-Hispanic art, the folk art of rural Mexico, or the bold and expressive iconography that speaks to the heart of Mexican identity. These elements are the foundation of my work, providing both aesthetic inspiration and emotional resonance.
Typography, in particular, holds a special place in my creative process. I am fascinated by how letterforms can communicate not just words, but emotions, tone, and personality. I often explore typography not only as a tool for communication but as an integral visual element that forms part of the overall composition. The references I collect—ranging from the bold, expressive letterforms found in traditional Mexican posters to more modern typographic explorations—guide my process as I craft typographic systems that feel both rooted and forward-thinking.
