We, as designers, have the chance to empower the elements that surround us in a creative way. When I think about design and all the processes involved in it, I think about research and experimentation, about the learning process that activates reflection, about ludic research and management of knowledge; I think about inventing, growing, breaking the rules and enjoying myself.
Here is where design establishes a dialogue with art, asking questions about new ways of being, living and thinking about reality.
But I am a graphic designer. I do not consider myself an artist. In my opinion, an artist is someone that makes a personal expression; most of the times he is a “problem narrator”. A designer, however, starts working when he is commissioned a project whether of his own or an external one. A designer must “pose problems” and try to “solve” them, give an answer to a need before a deadline.
To carry this out, a designer must synthesize many views at the same time: those of the studio itself, those of the clients, those of the markets, those of the technological disruptions… and he must make his own interpretation of reality. And this reality has to do with / is related to economy, improvement of environment and social change.
