About Saiju Mohamed : Name : Saiju Mohamed Mohammed Basheer Age & Date of Birth : 38yrs, 30.05.1977 Organization : Insight Architects Designation : Principal Architect & Proprietor As early as 1999, when he was only a second year architecture student at the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, Saiju Mohamed Basheer began hands on learning with experienced masons and supervisors at various projects on site around the city. He was the secretary of Society of Student Architects and effectively conducted the South Indian Student Architects convention, Zonasa 2000, as the convener. Saiju's thesis project on the International Sea Port & Trans-shipment Hub at Vizhinjam was adopted by the Government of Kerala as the preliminary conceptual design for the project. He already had 12 buildings to his credit by the time he opened up the small business office of Saiju Mohamed Associates in his hometown in the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram city in July of 2001 right after graduation. Moving to a location within the city in 2002, Saiju pioneered the Insight Card Consortium for Architectural Research and Design. Even while the consortium was actively undertaking projects (a total of 18 in a two year period), Saiju ensured that it stayed an organization open to fresh ideas and a fertile training arena for junior architects and architecture students. The same conducive philosophy was carried on as the consortium evolved into the commercial service provider, Insight Architects in the same location where it recently completed a decade of its inspiring presence. With well over 500 diverse projects, from minimalist residential homes to large scale infrastructure undertakings, professionally delivered till date, Insight Architects stays true to its pithy mantra that "a response is a design!" Saiju has retained the passion for sea port design from his student days leading to the publication of his paper on "The Need of Architecture in Ports" in several reputed international journals and his invited participation in the International Conferences in Ocean Engineering in Chennai. He has presented a paper titled 'Seaports-through the eyes of architecture' at the international conference on port structures and harbor engineering at Amet University on 2012". Saiju's relentless striving and commitment to socially responsible architecture is evident from his presence as an associate to the Center for Integrated Development of Rural and Urban Studies (CIRUS) for the projects of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. He continues to serve as a guest lecturer in many prestigious institutions in south India. Saijureceived the Indian Institute of Architecture's award for outstanding contribution to the field of architecture. He has served as Hon. Secretary of the I.I.A. Saiju is registered with the Council of Architecture and is an associate of the Indian Institute of Interior Designers. More than a handful of Saiju's projects have been tele-featured by various channels in Kerala. The fact that he was a "Kalaprathibha" (Literary and Arts Champion) during his school and college days certainly helps with the television appearances! He was Shortlisted as one of the top notch architects for IIA (Indian Institute of Architects) National Awards. He was shortlisted for IIA (Indian Institute of Architects) Kerala Chapter Awards. He recieved the Best Interiors-Commercial design Award by Malayala Manorama- Parpidam.
