| DESIGN NAME: The Dhaba Project PRIMARY FUNCTION: Restaurant INSPIRATION: The Cultural amalgamation of the two different States of India , Kerala , a state which is subtle but celebrates the nature around , and Punjab being a state of contrast taste with their nature being celebration, combining these cultures with the language of Architecture was the inspiration. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Dhaba Project is a restaurant designed for a cultural integration that people of Kerala and Punjab , two different states in India share . a diaspora , a cultural crescendo. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The entire 1175sqm of land is differentiated functionally in terms of service zone and guest zone, with a functional pattern of movement for the efficient service and a dramatic experiential pattern for the guest, the building statement and behavior of spaces crafted with contextual identity as well as the intimacy of the six unique dining spaces. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in August 2013 and completed on 27th December 2014. The Project is located in Trivandrum, the capital of the state of Kerala, which is a southern most state of India, the location enjoys the national highway which is the major cyber corridor of the Nation.the west facing site of 1175sqm enjoys the only curve for kilometers. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Reused Brick, Thatch Roofs, Reused Bamboo. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: various locally available materials such as mud, Bamboo, raw bricks, the poles of Casuarina tree, rope, woven coconut leaves, Palm leaves are used. Traditional and prevailing construction technologies are used all over the scheme the red oxide , yellow oxide and black oxide , rejected factory tiles are used, the reused timber from demolished old buildings were tremendously used for all over. the long poles were the cast away teak trees. TAGS: Dhaba, Indian, Punjabi, Kerala, Brick, Bamboo, Restaurant,Punjab, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Diaspora of Punjab and kerala exist in every part of the world , still maintain its identity, the celebration of colours culture, movements, are taken into the architectural language,in expressing the punjabiness while the architecture characters with intimate spaces represented the Keralaness , which amalgamate the synchronising two culture. CHALLENGE: Punjab and Kerala are the most significant states in the most diverse nation in the world, India. positioned in the extreme north and south, both the states are unique in its history, culture, and tradition, they keep their identity in almost every part of the world and Diaspora, the extreme geographic as well as climatic positioning hold a unique identities with distinct responsiveness to the festival , culture , celebration, lifestyle, attitude, and dining . finding a paradigm within these identities and create an architectural language is the design challenge.
