About Alexander Zhukovsky : Alexander Zhukovsky was born in a small Ukrainian town Polonnoe. After attending elementary and secondary school in the north of Russia in Kogalym, he moved to the city of Khanty-Mansiysk, where he studied applied arts and artistic woodcarvings. After graduating the Khanty-Mansiysk College of Art he moved to Yekaterinburg, where he received a master's degree in industrial design at USAAA. In 2008 Alexander Zhukovsky founded his own design studio which is working across a wide range of fields, from lighting, furniture and sanitary ware to medical equipment and vehicles. Today Alexander Zhukovsky Studio based in Warsaw (Poland) and St. Petersburg (Russia). It's a small team of designers, united by a common idea and a shared vision of "good design". Among the studio’s clients both small innovative companies and large manufacturers from Russia, USA, Europe and Asia. Winner of major Russian and international design awards. Lecturer at USAAA and Khanty-Mansiysk Institute of Design.
STATEMENT OF ART:
Participation in ethnographic expeditions to the Extreme North, the study of culture and way of life of the indigenous peoples of the Russian North, the study of applied arts on par with a modern design, interest in both traditional cultural values and the latest technology and futurology – all of it inevitably have been forming my individual design concept and my own vision of designing process. I realized that the design is the art of using experiences of the past to create the experience of the future. It's like a beautiful bridge between the past and the future, which is consisting of experiences, emotions, feelings, observations, calculations and research in the form of attractive and useful product to facilitate and decorating our daily life. DESIGN IS IT ABSENCE. Dieter Rams said that “Good design is as little design as possible". I really like this phrase. Good design is the logical design. Perfectly when people don't think how to open a cupboard or cabinet, it should be intuitively understandable. When a person doesn't need to apprehend something rationally by his mind, when the design is so laid out and easy, then person take it emotional or thru the sensory perception. A sensory perception or emotional experience is much stronger and more stable than rational. Perhaps that is why the most expensive and cult goods (furniture or clothes) in terms of design look very simple and even ascetic. THE BEAUTY OF FUNCTION. When you work on design of a product or furniture, beauty is necessary to associate not only with the appearance. Almost everything has an unique functions even if it's only aesthetic pleasure. I believe that each function has its own aesthetics. The task of the designer is to identify and demonstrate this aesthetic, make this function beautiful. Design is good if the form and function have a logical connection, when form and function correspond to each other and when the form emphasizes the function. The function must have the shape and this shape must be beautiful.
