About Eckhard Beger : Eckhard Beger, born in Geneva, Switzerland, designs and creates contemporary art furniture. His works have been the recipients of renowned international design awards. He founded ArteNemus for the design, realization and distribution of his creations. Beger’s approach is multi-faceted, blending creativity with structure. His aesthetic identity is influenced by his European cultural heritage, his passion for foreign cultures and by extensive travel throughout the world, notably Asia. Through his innate sense of shapes and proportions, he translates harmonious curves into accomplished organic creations, thus overcoming the aesthetic limitations of plane surfaces and straight lines. As a musician himself, who plays an Ignacio Fleta & Hijos guitar made from Indian Rosewood, Eckhard Beger feels that aesthetic and musical harmony go hand in hand. Beger’s works are based on the formal association of exotic wood species and art craftsmanship. According to Eckhard Beger, exotic wood species are a reflection of the diversity of the 5 continents of this world. Their selection and combination emphasize the three-dimensional character of his creations. His attention to detail and appreciation for art craftsmanship was heightened through his professional experience in the world of fine watch making which is expressed in his works, each notable for their perfect finish and tactile nature. In emphasizing aesthetics, Beger opens the door to a new understated and sensual design language, naturally inviting contemplation and discovery. In addition to his musical education at the Geneva Music Conservatory, Eckhard Beger holds an MSc from ETH Zurich and an MBA from INSEAD Fontainebleau.
STATEMENT OF ART:
As a contemporary art furniture designer I blend conceptual ideas (e.g., designing a table based on the morphology of an octopus) and a distinctive contemporary design language with the use of figured wood species (e.g., flamed maple, Indian rosewood or macassar ebony) and art craftsmanship. I think of my creations as functional pieces of art.

I find the abstract ideas for my creations in geometry, mathematics and ornamentations, in modern and postmodern architecture, as well as in the microscopic and macroscopic realms of nature and space.

In terms of aesthetics and design language, I draw inspiration from the clear lines of the Bauhaus style as much as I like to explore the geometric freedom given by curves and organic shapes. During the whole design process, I give proportions, curves and shapes particular attention whereby my engineering eye allows me to find the right equilibrium between aesthetics and the creations’ structural integrity. Traditional wood art craftsmanship as well modern numeric wood manufacturing technologies (e.g., 5 axis numeric wood milling) are put to use for their realization.

Beyond outline and function, I like to emphasize the aesthetics of my creations through the usage of figured woods with their wild grain and contemporary marquetry. I feel that the natural beauty and contrasting colors of wood add a dimension of warmth.

By blending a contemporary design language and natural materials, I create sensual designs that invite the beholder to contemplation and discovery.
