DESIGN NAME: Hello
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pub - Restaurant
INSPIRATION: The climatic approach of having a "Veranda" space as seen in Bangalore colonial architecture. Industrial buildings with exposed structural members. Graphic interior elements. Facade screens as climate control devices
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: An existing restaurant reconfigured to a pub & restaurant of two floors connected with a double height. The design had to be cost effective and with a quick construction turnaround. The new structure was exposed outside the existing building to create an exoskeleton. We retained & restored the backdrop gabled wall. The upper floor is almost entirely open to its sides, bringing the greenery inside. The front façade screen has louvres designed to modulate porosity to the space.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The targeted customer base was the young working class Information Technology crowd in tech parks nearby. The design had to be cost effective and with a quick construction turnaround. The duality of the venue as a night/day space was crucial. The light filled day space becomes a bustling, high energy space at night. A lot of thought went into the lighting aspects. Another aspect that was important was the circulation w.r.t to the customers as well as service.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was completed in Jan 2018, Bangalore, India
