| DESIGN NAME: Cells PRIMARY FUNCTION: Poster INSPIRATION: The Dao is the underlying principle behind the creation of the myriad things. The order of the process giving rise to the myriad things began with the Dao producing a kind of generative force. As everyone knows that CELL is the meaning of cells. We expect PIY to develop fission like cells, thus building more beautiful space for players around the world. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: On July 19, 2017, we built a small building in Melbourne, Australia. It is a small castle assembled of 761 components, and I named it “CELLS”. The nodes are designed as the hand-turned thread tenon and straight tenon，no metal accessories，you can be install by bare hand,which is summarized as “East Tenon & West Mortise”. You will find our products, including variable shelves, study and shoe racks, etc., all of which are broken up and reassembled into an organism. And then, you will feel their desire to grow freely. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: People can see part of Australian castle on a poster and the explosion illustration of its components, but they cannot see the castle itself. The strong visual stimulation and color arrangement attract more people to be there in person. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2017 in Australia and China and finished in Jul 2017, used in Australian intrenational furniture fair 2017 FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: White Kraft Paper: Four colour offset print SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: width 420mm x Height 594mm TAGS: Poster Design, Brand Design, Art Direction, Graphic Design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We have been considering how to convert bore into fun. When designing the poster, in order to deliver the ideology of PIY but not to abandon the mystery, we have tired different kinds of combination and color arrangement and choose the type with greatest visual impact. CHALLENGE: PIY is the flat furniture firm which challenges old traditions. The simplest style enables assembly to be more interesting. We re-define the relationship of furniture and citizens. Our furniture can be used for a long time and can be as durable as classical one. However, it takes some time for people to adopt this transforming of furniture.
