| DESIGN NAME: Love for Hometown PRIMARY FUNCTION: Propagate City Culture INSPIRATION: Jingdezhen is our hometown which is Famous for producing porcelain in China. We all love porcelain and this city. The motivation for creating these designs comes from this emotion. This porcelain plate was made by Feng Wu using a kind of traditional craft in Jingdezhen. It have very beautiful glazed blue and red color. I was attracted deeply by it and try to make the further visual conversion. I want to express the image and culture of Jingdezhen by the way of visual communication. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a series of graphics and posters. On one hand, the meaning of rectangle red seal is Chinese character: Jingdezhen and the shape of it can increase the layering and richness of the picture. The use of porcelain pattern and seal's shape and meaning originated in Chinese traditional culture as the first material make these works have deep traditional and historical sources. On another hand, blue and red color form the contrast relationship that meet exactly the western color principles. These characteristic make this series of designs different from others. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: We all love Jingdezhen, which is our hometown and want to create something to promote the city image and culture. Because Jingdezhen is famous for producing porcelain, porcelain plate become the best media of expression. Then we use the modern software to recreate the traditional culture. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This porcelain plate was made by Feng Wu using traditional craft in Jingdezhen last year. Now i adopt the methods of partial enlargement and use photoshop to rearrange the patterns in plate, and add the seal shape originated in Chinese traditional culture to form new works. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The size of main image is 1270mm x 1270mm, The size of optional image #1,#3,#4 is all 635mm x 635mm, The size of optional image #2 is Width 860mm x Height 1220mm. TAGS: Graphic and visual communication, poster, graphic, Tao Jiang, Love for hometown RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Chinese society is in the stage of modernization and international development. How to communicate with the people of other countries in the world and how to realize effectively cultural exchanges with other countries are very urgent issues. As an associate professor focus on art and design in China, i try to explore new way of visual communication to face with this situation. These designs explore the methods of the visual conversion from traditional porcelain to modern graphic design. CHALLENGE: I am committed to explore a kind of design that can connect the Philosophy and patterns in Chinese traditional culture with the international and modern concept and forms.
