PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Pavilion

INSPIRATION:
The shape of the Sailing Castle manifests the architectural attributes of local and traditional culture in Donggang via its modern art form. In the motif of FENG, the Sailing Castle is endowed with the qualities of temples, churches, and shrines. Furthermore, it furnishes audiences with distinctive charismas from day to night.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Artist Cheng Tsung FENG contrives a symbolic pavilion with wood constructions. Through the white sails harmoniously intertwined among the structure, he interprets the image of many sailboats gathering at the harbor as if an enormous sculptural entity embodies the enchanting scenery from the Donggang coast.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
By way of building the Sailing Castle for attractions to people, FENG depicts the phenomenon that fishermen and boats sailing off and making homeward voyages as people entering the installation. The interaction among people and the Sailing Castle is a representation of the prosperity of the fishery industry, communal unity, expectation, and joy.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started from February 2019 to March 2019 in Pingtung, Taiwan

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
In this project, we use the original color of the material. The wood is the Taiwanese cedar that is verified by FSC. In addition to protecting the forest environment, by using this kind of domestically produced materials can keep material processing and other related industries and profits in Taiwan. After the lantern festival, most of the materials will be reused without being discarded. The wood part, light parts, and the unprinted canvas will be brought back to the studio for reuse. For this short-term display, we try to make it in an environmentally friendly way.

Wood structural engineering: make good use of the strength and structural mechanical properties of wood materials to create a stable structure that resists strong winds, and maintain light visual presentation and construction efficiency (4 workers assembled in 3 days) Formal meaning Lighting Design

Interpret the impression of the local fishing port with local wood and traditional wood crafts, creating a symbolic installation pavilion that allows people to rest. The 30th year of the Taiwan Lantern Festival is the most grand lantern festival event in Taiwan.
