| DESIGN NAME: La Taue PRIMARY FUNCTION: Folding Learning Tower INSPIRATION: Kids need to experience and discover the world and we have the responsibility to give them our support and tools for allowing it. Sharing some special activity such as preparing the dinner together allows them to enhance their self esteem and the good relationship within the family, the most important social structure, preparing them for being good adults. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This foldable learning tower is a unique product. It enlarges kids world and creativity by giving them access to the adult's activity in a safe way: from the kitchen counter to any worktable. It has been conceived to meet modern design taste, it is hand-crafted, and it has been designed in order to fold easily: one hand fold it, one hand holds the child. Once folded it can be put in a storage closet. Its versatile allows also the use it as a simple stool by lifting the protection bar. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The folding learning tower "la taue" is a unique concept and an useful tool for any family with kids 1-5 y.o. It is design to allow kids to autonomously climb it using holes and handles properly placed. Furthermore, its peculiarity is that it folds easily to fit a closet or to be put behind the door when it is not used. The protection bar can be lifted to transform it into a stool. Finally it could also be used as a kid-guest-chair if needed! PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was conceived in September 2018; the final prototype was produced in February 2019. The commercial launch is planned for the Milano Design Week, April 2019. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: My personal experience and lots of market research made me design this peculiar learning tower, which is good looking, functional and practical. It is made by hand in birch plywood and varnished by a water-based paint, good for kids. Handcrafted by an Italian carpenter that gave to the product its wide and wise know-how. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Opened in full: 45 x 40 x 90 Folded: 45 x 28 x 100 Semi-folded: 45 x 20 x 130 TAGS: learning tower, montessori, kid furniture, handcrafted, modern family, wood, foldable, italian RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The first research happened naturally as I was looking for a learning tower for myself. After several (qualitative) researches on the web, using mostly Google, I came with the evidence that all products proposed this heavy and dull object, without caring about two facts: the design and the possibility to fit modern not-so-roomy kitchens. CHALLENGE: The hardest part was to find the perfect folding system proving to be secure, solid, light and visually appealing. On top of that, the solution needed to respect the cost budget set.
