DESIGN NAME: Poiema
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Hotel Resort
INSPIRATION: The plot is located in an idyllic green environment at the Ionian coast and is surrounded by the most significant local beaches with crystal clear turquoise waters. The location is ideal to accommodate a Hotel Resort: a buildable plot in the Mediterranean landscape, where the sunlight interacts so beautiful with the Ionian sea and creates with the sky a unique canvas.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The main goal was the attempt to create a hybrid relationship between anthropogenic and natural element, capable of creating a coexistence between them. The structure is decomposed into fragments of the hill from which the various building blocks take shape, following the course of the soil towards the sea while underground parts are covered with earth. Structured and unstructured space interact creating multiple visual stimuli and ensuring at the same time uninterrupted views to the Ionian Sea.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The proposal concerns the design of a Luxury Hotel Resort in Sivota, Greece, a cosmopolitan Mediterranean seaside resort. The region has a remarkable tourist development during the last years. The proposal intends to offer a variety of complementary and optimal services to the tourists. The architectural approach provides for the osmosis of architecture and landscape - natural flora, offering vital walking experiences among the olive trees with views to the endless blue of the sky, the sea and the Ionian Islands.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2018 in Sivota and finished in August 2018 in Sivota.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Plot size 50.000 sqm, Build Area: 10.000 sqm, Functions: Parking spaces, reception area, infirmary, restaurants and bars with large outdoor areas and uninterrupted views to the sea, meeting rooms, wellness and spa areas with swimming pool, gym etc., playgrounds, tennis courts, helicopter reception area, standard rooms, standard rooms with sofa, junior suites, luxury suites, duplex suites, villas: indicative total number of hosting spaces approx. 200

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Opportunities: The location is ideal to accommodate a high class tourist investment, as: the rarity and lack of an equivalent area with the potential to support such an investment in the region, combining size, location and other qualitative features (Mediterranean landscape, intense presence of local vegetation etc.) while being able to build, make the property unique. Over the last years the hotel sector of the area displays a considerable momentum in strengthening domestic and international demand. The offer of transport infrastructure to and from the area is absolutely satisfactory.
CHALLENGE: The proposal provides as well for the existence of private pools in the host units, but their number remains indicative as this and the general requirements will arise as determined. However, the general flexibility frameworks of a controlled architectural design are given based on the different needs and requirements that will arise maintaining its overall character at the same time. The buildings are positioned in such a way that they do not interfere visually and do not block the visual escapes to the sea from all spaces of the complex. The architectural alignments ensure uninterrupted views to all the advantageous directions.
