DESIGN NAME: Sunac Sanya Haitang Bay Sales Center
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sales Center
INSPIRATION: Mr. Joe Chen, the design director of Apex, who is well versed in oriental culture, takes the project environment of being surrounded by mountains and girdled by rivers as the foundation of his creation. Through the metaphor of “moon and mountain” to manipulate space, he reconstructs an oriental space that conforms to international and contemporary aesthetics.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project it extracts the traditional Chinese element “wooden lattices”. Combined with contemporary architectural forms, the dark brown “wooden lattices” are spliced into screens and fences of different sizes as space partitions, creating transparent and open patterns and unifying the grand and elegant overall tone. The tailor-made black titanium-alloy ceiling in the sand table area, together with lights, creates a unique artistic conception of mutualism of blankness and fullness.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Customers have extremely high requirements for the project and hope to give them a high-quality leisurely life. In order to adhere to the concept of high-end"Sunac-style"life values, the designer tries to create a place that is not only for marketing, but also for exchanging art and culture.
CHALLENGE: For this project, the time left for designer is very urgent, only 4 months.
Customers request to adopt the new Chinese style. The front and back of the original building of the sales hall, which is more than 10 meters high, are connected with windows and doors. This leads to over-lighting of the whole space, which is a great challenge to create a Chinese-style secluded atmosphere. Therefore, the designer employs the design technique of wooden-lattice screen partitions to reduce the light, but the space is not caused to be dark. The ceiling is made of mirror material, which makes the whole space extended.
