DESIGN NAME: T Weekend Residence
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential House
INSPIRATION: The site features a 13 meter elevation that allows you to view the sea below. The client were seeking a weekend residence for their stay on days off - as a break from their busy weekday and work in the city life. Unlike a vacation house, A Weekend Residence has structurally fulfilled the function of a residence, and also allows clients to enjoy direct and dynamic transitions into nature which is a difficult thing to achieve in the city and gain quiet time to heal the fatigue on weekends.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A weekend residence differs from a vacation house or a lodging facility but it also provide for a functional lifestyle. To bring out the characteristics of the site, three different-leveled slabs has been arranged. By penetrating the core into these three slabs, they are connected and it also functions as a device for gravity ventilation providing a comfortable indoor space. The different leveled slabs established to gain both the view from the sloped land and the direct relationship with the earth through gardening etc.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We have arranged the elevated site into three slabs. Each has a main usage – roof terrace, main room, and outdoor living – and we aimed for a space where different activities can be enjoyed at different levels within the same building. The three slabs are joined at the structure’s core, which is a long and slender 10m high stairwell, and this fills the role of physically connecting the slabs mutually while also functioning as a gravity ventilation device to create a comfortable and pleasant interior space. Also, as the core acts as a buffer zone that joins each of the slabs, it drastically expands the space, creating more empty space in the mind.
