DESIGN NAME: Opera
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring
INSPIRATION: From Architecture to Jewelry, I was trained as an Architect and I have always enjoyed combining the knowledge, which I have acquired throughout my career.
I have designed lots of custom made jewelry but I wanted to create a jewel that strikes me and provokes a profound reaction, a piece that you will not forget and that surpass traditional rules.
I inspired by my past architectural projects and books for creating connections and exploring harmonies between these two fields of art, Jewelry design and architecture. The monument that inspired me the most for this project, was the Sydney Opera house.
This ring evokes a modern monument, illuminated only by diamonds. Also the construction uses a basic metal structure which is used in most buildings.
I was born in Iran and Boteh, the motif on the underside of the Opera Ring, is important in Persian culture used to decorate fabrics during the Sassanid Empire and it is a emblem that I use on all of my creations.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Opera Ring is a multi dimensional ring which is made with 34 elements, and set with 306 stones where the characteristic is that each side is different and its winding course seems never ending. Forms and frequencies are used over and over to create a perfect aesthetic balance of lines and shapes.
Each element is hollow inside so the stones receive more light and shine brighter as well as making this ring lighter weight. The beauty is the precision and exactness of the structure combined with meticulous details.
Opera Ring evokes a modern monument, a combination of curiosity and creativity.
Inside, the ring is marked by the Boteh motif, hence adding a unique underside that marks the piece giving it a special high end seal.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Strong design is about knowing how to create an object that involves you!
Creating a dialogue between the object and the wearer.
If you were to wear the Opera ring somehow it engages you, you keep looking at the ring, you keep moving your hand to observe how it shines at every different angle and keeps playing with the brightness of the diamonds.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project initiated at the end of 2017 in Florence and was produced in Valenza in Italy in 2018. This collection will be produced in two versions, in full Diamonds or in Diamonds and Blue Sapphires. The other pieces of this collection are in production process. The Opera collection will be launched in September 2019 in Dubai.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I design lots of costume jewelry but this time I wanted to create something personal. A monument. Something stunning. A piece that can give the wearer a unique look, dismantling the codes, whether classic of customary.
I researched in many Architectural projects and I went through my old architectural books and projects, creating connections and exploring harmonies. I did not want to research only in jewelry design but focus on Architecture and the technical aspect, a jewel that needs engineering skills to be able to produce.
I wanted a ring which glows, so the setting was fundamental. After a lot of research I decided to use a very particular setting method to reflect as much light as possible. I also used very good quality of diamonds, VVS F color stones which are bright white and clear quality.
CHALLENGE: This ring is multi dimensional and extremely complex. The main issues were trying to design and produce a piece that maintains the exact distances between the elements which are equal at every observation angle. The beauty of this ring is in this preciseness. It is geometrical and full of angles but it is also fluid and curvaceous.
I had to design not only a ring that evokes a monument but that is also wearable and not too heavy, finding the right thickness of the gold, not too thick, or it would be too heavy and not too fine, so it would not bend. One of the main issues of every ring is also that it must not twist.
