| DESIGN NAME: Babycrib LOLA PRIMARY FUNCTION: Baby Crib INSPIRATION: For their own children, the team of BERMBACH Handcrafted spent quite some time searching for a wickerwork cradle, something which had been used for many previous generations. They are light and airy, aesthetically round, yet sturdy. However their search proved fruitless. They came upon the idea of designing classical wicker furniture themselves and within a very short time founded their own workshop. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This handmade rattan bed for children fulfills the need of an individual and sustainable furniture, which can be enjoyed for a very long time. Made from natural rattan, natural tanned leather, metal legs, and oak feet. Country of Origin: Indonesia This babybed is a beautiful and decorative accessory for a modern lifestyle. The small feet and even base is gentle on floor surfaces. The weave of the basket offers transparency and firmly laced leather straps provide additional stability. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The innovation is that the basket and substructure of the furniture are variable elements, which can be combined in diverse ways. In addition, the beds are offered as a system including accessories such as mattresses and pillows made of organic cotton as well as changing pads made of sea grass. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: BERMBACH Handcrafted was founded in 2017. The private limited company BERMBACH handcrafted Ltd was founded on the 19th of February 2018. The design for the crib LOLA was launched in 2017. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Rattan natural, natural tanned leather, metal legs, oak feet. In our search for sustainable natural materials, we discovered the unique properties of the rattan palm "Calamus Rotang". In contrast to many other "sustainable&qu SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: length: 1030 mm / width: 600 mm / height: 860,5 mm Packaged dimensions: 1060 x 640 x 510 cm TAGS: sustainable furniture, childrens bed, vintage design, baby crib, baby bed, childrens furniture, vintage furniture, handmade bed, handmade furniture, rattan bed, rattan furniture, wickerwork bed, wickerwork furniture, sustainable bed RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We initially searched for baby cribs for our own children. However, despite its positive properties - light, robust, durable, weatherproof, sustainable - rattan is hardly used in children's furniture, especially beds. So we showed some initiative of our own. The goal was to produce children's beds and accessories from exclusively sustainable natural materials (rattan, wood, organic cotton) and 100% pollutant-free components (metal, vegetable-tanned leather), without the use of any plastic. We then developed designs on the basis of historical models, material supplies and partner companies that met our high quality criteria. At this point a series of prototypes had to be produced in order to optimise design, material selection and processing quality in small steps. Afterall the result of this path can be described as the successful reintroduction of rattan as a material for children's beds and thus the establishment of another absolutely environmentally friendly article of daily use based on renewable raw materials. CHALLENGE: Finding partner companies that could fulfil our high quality standards. Moreover, finding a material that could be sustainably sourced, as well as formed in the way that we needed for our designs was a challenge.
