| DESIGN NAME: Merriest Christmas PRIMARY FUNCTION: Greetings Card INSPIRATION: The inspiration came from the idea to create an experience that would help spread the true spirit of Christmas, while showcasing our love for the festival, and spreading understanding of this holiday in Hong Kong. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design was set to evoke an emotion too often forgotten during Christmas in Hong Kong - the joy of giving - in a fun and interactive way. Designed for clients, families and friends, this is a card that recipients would want to talk about with others. By creating locally relevant pins to serve as conversation starters, it also ensured the story of Christmas and the joy giving would keep spreading. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Christmas card box set is designed to be a journey for each person. Open the box to discover the front of the card and then flip it to read the story. By lifting the card to read, you’ll discover a set of 3 pins inside the box. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Oct/Nov 2018 in Hong Kong and finished in Dec 2018 and was hand delivered and mailed to each person in the week before Christmas FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design is based on the concept of sharing joy with other. A factory was sourced to help create the soft enamel pins based on the design as well as develop a top lid box to hold the pins inside. By placing strips of cardboard inside the box to create a top layer to hold the greeting card on top of the pins. Normal offset printing with gold foil in key areas were used. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 204mm (Width) x 139mm (Depth) x 15mm (Height) TAGS: christmas, minimalistic, pins, greetingcard, santaclaus, charity, shareofjoy, box RESEARCH ABSTRACT: First, the creative studio partnered with a local charity group that supports children and young mothers. The studio committed to donate money on behalf of each recipient to the charity group. Then a greeting card was designed to introduce the charity, the donation on their behalf, and the joy of giving. Not only that, but the studio also created a fun, Santa-inspired pins for all the recipient to wear to their gatherings, to further share the story of the card and Christmas with their friends and families. CHALLENGE: The hardest part of this design is to find a charity group that inspires the recipient to believe in its service and help share the story of the card to their friends and family. And within a tight schedule, the studio had to work with different parties (Charity, Printer, Pin Makers, Courier) to make sure everything aligns and can be delivered before Christmas.
