| DESIGN NAME: M4 House PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential INSPIRATION: The design is inspired by two main elements : the house profile type which is the basis of the project, and the forest, the surrounding nature : all the architecture is designed and oriented according to its natural surroundings, to benefit from the view and to create a connection with the exterior. The process of disintegration of the volume of the house type is contingent on nature arround, so each interior space can benefit from a singular view and the best solar orientation possible. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: M4 House is the result of the rupture of the pure volumes regarding a strict sense of orientation. Located at the top of the land, it is designed to benefit from an impressive aspect of the forest growing to the south. The residential type volume is broken and desgregated in a pitched roof oriented in the N-S direction, generating in this facade large openings that frame the view. As a result, the permeable architecture obtained opens up a dialogue with its surroundings. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The main interaction in this project is the dialogue with its natural surroundings. Deconstructing the residential type volumen three articulated volumes are obtained, two of which fly over the terrain, providing protection and shelter under them. Every strip breaks itself finding the optimum orientation. It is worth noting the diversity and differences between the N-S and E-O facades. The first is permeable and light, open to the surroundings, while the second is blind, with heavy walls, inspired by the profile of the house type. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: To provide solidity and forcefulness in contrast to the pronounced cantilevers, all the volumes are finished in limestone. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 430m2 TAGS: House, Landscape, Framing views, Articulated volume, Orientation, Openings, Pitched roof, Dialogue with surrondings RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Once the program is defined, the pure volume breaks itself creating a pitched roof. This volume is divided into three different strips in order to include the variety of the uses. Therefore, this division allows to dock the volumes depending on the solar orientations. It also allows to compress or widen in heights the spaces regarding their needs. Every strip breaks itself finding the optimum orientation, creating three pitched roofed volumes that in their coupling generate new spaces and a totally different roof game from the origin. CHALLENGE: In this project, the creative challenge was to create different kind of experiences by connecting the visitor to the natural surroundings with different points of vue, but always trying to benefit from the optimum solar orientations. The main difficulty was to transform the volume to create a dialogue with the outside but always keeping the essence of the residential type architecture and following the orientation of the sun to provide a maximum of natural light inside. NAME: Zooco Estudio PROFILE: ZOOCO ESTUDIO is a young architectural firm founded in 2008 by Miguel Crespo Picot, Javier Guzmán Benito and Sixto Martín Martínez , with head offices in Madrid and Santander. ZOOCO ESTUDIO´s philosophy is facing each project, from interior interventions to large structures building, through the same creative process.
