| DESIGN NAME: Educational Complex PRIMARY FUNCTION: Middle School INSPIRATION: The relationship between the educational building and its surrounding environment has long been a problem. Next, to the new campus of Tianjin No.4 Middle School, there is an old community. With the completion of the school, the community is provided with an opportunity to have a better quality and atmosphere. New and old, the school culture and the community culture may influence each other. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project is to design a new campus of 58,000 square meters for Tianjin No.4 Middle School, which is divided into two functional zones A and B. Zone A is for academic buildings, Zone B for living and sports. Along the axis from south to north are open spaces - canteen, gymnasium, and podium. As a transitional space between academic building and gymnasium, the podium is a place for students to talk, think and relax. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: - PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2015 and finished in August 2018 in Tianjin, China. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: - SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: - TAGS: RSAA, Middle School, Campus, Complex, Educational Institutions, Tianjin RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: The project is located in a highly urbanized site. Therefore, we have to design the facades respectively according to different attitude and status of the urbanized city. For instance, there is a viaduct with continuous noises. Thus, a greenbelt was planted between the viaduct and the school, which does not only improve the surrounding environment but also decrease the impact of the noise. NAME: RSAA/ Büro Ziyu Zhuang PROFILE: RSAA/ Büro Ziyu Zhuang was founded in 2010, in which Ziyu Zhuang works as the chief architect, and it is one of RSAA GmbH members. Meanwhile, Ziyu Zhuang is a partner of the German RSAA design group which was founded in 1965, operating in Cologne and owning around 80 architects. Based in Beijing, Büro Ziyu Zhuang aims to use the connections from Germany and China to establish a new design vocabulary making use of the resources of both to create a new element of thought, a fusion of European and Chinese architecture. This will create a new and unique style which takes advantage of the two-way system, bringing Chinese influences to Europe, crafting a new line of thought that surpasses the constraints of each individual culture, and vice versa. Jining Cultural Center was awarded the BIM Award of China Engineering & Consulting Association in 2016, Zhangjiagang Church was awarded Architizer A+ Award in New York City in 2017. Ziyu Zhuang won the Design and Art Achievement Award, one of the top prizes of China Building Decoration Association in 2017. In the same year, Tongling Recluse was presented in "Dream House" and became the first architectural project whose design and construction process being watched by millions of people in architectural history, meanwhile, it was one of Archdaily’s Top 10 annual Architecture projects. What’s more, it won Reddot award, IDEAT Future Award, Gold A’ Design Award, Iconic Award 2018: Innovative Architecture-Best of Best, DFA Design for Asia Awards-Gold Award, German Design Award-Special Mention, INNODESIGN PRIZE - “Space design/Interior design” winner, Architecture MasterPrize-Winner in Architectural Design / Residential Architecture, WAN Awards-House of the Year and ASIA PACIFIC INTERIOR DESIGN AWARDS-GOLD AWARD in 2018. It won iF DESIGN AWARD in 2019. |
