| DESIGN NAME: Zhongrui Headquarter PRIMARY FUNCTION: Office INSPIRATION: The design aims at the contradiction between public and private, office and entertainment. We split the functions into two towers with a huge public sunlight atrium and wrap the two towers and atrium as a whole with diamond-shaped curtain wall. The glass atrium can contain all sort of public activities and will impress visitors a lot. Offices and related functions such as stores, canteen, conference center, activity rooms are placed in two towers which have access control to guarantee privacy. Platforms hanged in the atrium keep communication between two towers. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project is located in the central area of Zheng Dong New District, Zhengzhou City, Hubei Province, mainly functioning as financial office. It is 3.5 km away from the CBD center of Zhengzhou and 1.5 km from the sub center, North Longhu. On the east, the Subway is under construction and on the west, Ruyi river provides the site with splendid view. The north and south sides are planning roads between blocks. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The developer changed their expectation a lot during the design process, the project position and some functional programs, but our main design concept still remains. For one reason, we adopt the strategy that floor plans are flexible, so floor plans can easily adapt to functional change. For the other, the concept clearly defines privacy and publicity so different users in this building can hardly interfere with each other. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2018 and is under Detail Design Stage. It will open in 2020 in Zhengzhou, China. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: To realize the crystal like facade and keep the space inside easy to use, the columns are leaned according to the gradient of the curtain wall. On the other hand, sustainability becomes the main issue for the sunlight atrium. By adding opening windows in particular places to improve the ventilation, we successfully reduced temperature when emulating the thermal environment in the digital model. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Site Area: 11370.95m2 Floor Area: 39798m2 Height: 45m Floors: 10 floors on the ground, 3 floors under the ground TAGS: L&P, Architects, Architecture Design, Headquarter Office, Green valley, Sunlight Atrium, Waterfront, Crystal, Communication Hub RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The site is located near the waterfront, between the Ruyi river and the residential area. It aims to be a private office for commercial use, while the solar garden are opened to the public, like a living room of the city, this green valley also transform the nature from outside to inside. The crystal facade is the iconic of the building, hence, this create a warm and elegant interior. The sunken plaza opening improves the access from sunlight lobby to car park and basement retails, also corresponding to the water front landscape, this provides a multi functional interface between the outdoor activities and the inner functions. CHALLENGE: The huge volume of the sunlight atrium makes it a challenge when it comes to fire control.According to Chinese fire control law of 2018 version, every room should be under certain area to prevent fire. Rooms should be separated with certain types of wall or curtain. Therefore, most shared space hung in the atrium are wrapped with fireproof glass to maximize the openness under those limitations.
