| DESIGN NAME: Mandana PRIMARY FUNCTION: Necklace INSPIRATION: This piece of jewelry is a part of a collection inspired by the powerful women in the history and specifically from Mandana, queen consort of Cambyses of Anshan and mother of Cyrus the Great which can show the strength of a queen and the grace of an angle. The final product is result of the 16 years of work experience and study in designing and making hand crafts. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This piece of jewelry can be impressive and memorable as it has a very unique design and technique of hand-weaving of the metal wires. This type of design shows strength and simplicity at the same time which never gets old and remain fashionable for centuries. In addition to its design the reason that make the piece to be unique and eternal is that brass as the main material of the product is getting more beautiful as it is oxidize during the time! OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The necklace can be easily fitted on the neck and the can be locked by hand without getting help from anybody else. The color is to be changed within a couple of years a bit to more greenish which make it to look more antic type and authentic. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project of designing and making the complete collection of about 15 pieces of necklace, 20 pairs of earring and 10 pieces of bracelet started in May 2008 and finished in December 2011 in Tehran. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Artist has used the technique of hand-weaving of the metal wires to create 6 wire-net pendants in shape of circle, square and rectangle out of brass wire which are mounted and assembled on a spring-type chain, all made by hand from brass wires of 0.5 mm in Diameter. Designer has the sketch and pattern in her mind and she makes the pieces herself . SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The chain of the necklace has a diameter of 15 cm (approximately), 3 circle-shape pendants with diameter of about 30 mm each, one circle-shape pendant with diameter of about 45 mm, one square-shape pendant of 45 mm x 45 mm (Approximately) and one rectangular-shape pendant of 30 mm x 55 mm (Approximately) TAGS: Hand-Made, Authentic, Hand-Craft, Metal, Wire, Hand-Weaving, Contemporary Jewelry, Ancient Persian Jewelry RESEARCH ABSTRACT: A research has been done over the antic jewelry and history of art specifically in the textile and hand-craft art of the Iran (Persia) throughout many years of study in university by using reference books, internet and advises from the professors in this fields. CHALLENGE: The process of oxidizing the brass was a challenge in design as the color of the product has been changed in time specially when it was in contact with water, but I found it to be kind of an advantage which gives more authenticity and better look to the product.
