| DESIGN NAME: Laihui PRIMARY FUNCTION: Coffee Roastery INSPIRATION: What I’ve been working on is to make the immersive experience of the given space maximum, for this roastery, it took almost an year to found this building which was once an real factory, and took another year to finally done the interior work. I chose a rich varieties of material to express the color of Grey and Black—the most suitable color of a factory, and create a completely space experiment for the people walk in here, it needs sensitive capture of the main theme and elements, especially th UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: There’s a growing number of coffee consumption happening in China, with the idea of Bringing Specialty Coffee to Ordinary Life, the first café of Laihui was opened in the Liuyun Estate, a quiet local neighborhood which surrounded by several shopping malls in the center area of Guangzhou. By using the pure and solid materials of cement and wood, to reduce the distraction of environment, and let people take as much attentions as possible to coffee itself. The Roastery is the 2.0 version of Laihu OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: First came in is to the open-ended rectangular bar include three different function setting in clockwise：cashier/ PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The design started in October 2017 in Guangzhou, finished in July 2018 in Guangzhou. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Use simple and environmentally friendly building materials to build theme space with factories as carriers. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 300 square meters TAGS: - RESEARCH ABSTRACT: While the third waves of specialty coffee is start effecting China, lots of cafe opened in recent years, many of them are just adding every possible elements like food/decoration etc to do so call comprehensive coffee space, turns out it was actually reducing the focus on the core role- coffee. What I do is to just holding the origin point - coffee, to make every elements fit it, to create a pure space to drink coffee, and immerse in the atmosphere. CHALLENGE: Needs to consider rationality not add anything distract the coffee experiment, and the origin building was very old and separated by walls to many rooms, needs to strengthen the structure and open the space into whole one. NAME: Laihui Coffee PROFILE: There’s a growing number of coffee consumption happening in China, with the idea of “Bringing Specialty Coffee to Ordinary Life”, the first café of Laihui was opened in the Liuyun Estate, a quiet local neighborhood which surrounded by several shopping malls in the center area of Guangzhou. By using the pure and solid materials of cement and wood, to reduce the distraction of environment, and let people take as much attentions as possible to coffee itself. The Roastery is the 2.0 version of Laihui, “Sharing” is the main concept of the brand, and also is my design, there’s an open-ended bar to let costumer watch the process of coffee brewing, an experience area of coffee roasting which is the focus in this space, and the sitting area is surrounded by steel shelves with bags and cans of coffee on it, try to fulfill people’s imagination of the coffee production link. |
